The present study was conducted to estimate density of the Jaguar in the Gallon Jug Estate (GJE), within La Selva Maya, a tri-national forested area in Belize, Guatemala, and Mexico, the largest contiguous forest north of the Amazon. In 2004, a joint bi-national jaguar density study across the Belize-Guatemala border was conducted in collaboration with WCS-Guatemala that included the Mirador-Rio Azul National Park and the GJE in the eastern Selva Maya (Maya Forest)landscape. As expected, the estimated density for jaguars across this landscape was high, especially so on the GJE property.
