The purpose of the September 25-26 workshop, convened in Belmopan at Convention Hotel, was to review and refine the REA methodology used in determining immediately threatened critical habitats in Belize. Preliminary findings from the critical habitat survey were presented and small group sessions organized to facilitate exchange of ideas and discussion of critical habitats and the maintenance of biological diversity in Belize. The REA workshop discussed the importance of rapid environmental assessment methodology for comprehensive land use planning and developing a national system of conservation lands. During the workshop, guest presentations and monitoring changes in land used were presented. The Critical Habitat Survey and this workshop is sponsored by WWF-US with assistance from USAID
