Download (5Mb)

The 2014 ecosystem health report for the Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve (TAMR) gives an overview of the current state of seagrass, mangrove and coral reef ecosystems. This report flags the condition of these ecosystems within the various management zones of the marine reserve and helps to provide a baseline against which to measure changes over time and the effectiveness of management actions. In tracking the health of these ecosystems, this monitoring program helps to ensure that biodiversity conservation remains an important part of management at Turneffe Atoll. In 2014, several sites were established inside the conservation, special management and general use zones of the marine reserve, to be able to compare the changes in these zones with management interventions over time. The data for the health report was collected by the marine team of the University of Belize’s Environmental Research Institute at the various sites identified across the atoll
